In Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, there are several new animals for you to take care of. However, these new animals possess many similarities to the older ones.

Pets

Dog

At the start of the game, the player is given a choice between a pointy -eared dog and a floppy-eared one. The difference is only aesthetic and has no effect on gameplay. You can gain affection with your dog by putting food in its bowl each day. At higher levels of affection, the dog will begin to follow you around the farm. The dog cannot be taken into buildings or taken off the farm.

Cat

You can get the cat from Romana starting in the first Fall of Chapter 2 by waking up later than your spouse. You treat it just like your dog, and they share the same bowl, so to gain affection with your cat you will need to fill the pet bowl twice per day. Like the dog, the cat cannot be taken into buildings or taken off the farm.

Horse

If you send Takakura to town everyday, you will get it on the first day of Summer in Chapter 1.

Profitable Animals

Cows

(3000G-7000G) - There are 4 types of cows: Normal, Brown, Marble, and Star. They produce milk of qualities B through S. To care for them, talk to them, snuggle them, and brush them every day. Also, wash their coats whenever they get dirty.

Sheep

(1500G) - These only come as males. You can sheer their wool once every 10 days. If you wash them before you shear them, you will get white wool, which sells for a lot. If you take good care of them, you may get golden wool, which sells for even more.

Chickens

(900G) - You can get these in male and female form. They make Normal Eggs, which sell for 40G, and Fertilized Eggs, which sell for 50G. Fertilized eggs can also be used make new chicks if placed in the incubator. If they are treated correctly, they will produce Golden Eggs, which sell for 300G.

Ducks

(Free) - If you build the pond, and wake up after your wife, you will get these animals. By having these animals, there is a chance you may have baby ducks.

Goats

(About 4000G)-You buy these from Van every Spring after the start of Chapter 2. They will produce goat milk for one year and then stop.

You may also purchase male chickens (roosters) and cows (bulls). They may appear to be a waste of money, but they can help you increase your profit; for example, roosters will allow chickens to lay hatchable eggs.
