Animals in General

On your farm it is possible to have 32 animals divided evenly of course in their barns. You can have eight, chickens, cows, horses and sheep. So once you have enough money you can go to the farmer's union and purchase your animal. Tough before you buy any animals, you need at least a couple patches of grass in their pasture for each type. These patches of grass are 3x3 and when the animals are outside they will eat them. A cow will need six patches while a chicken only needs three. You can cut this grass to make fodder (animal food). Every day be sure to give your animal fodder. You can get this fodder from the fodder bin in the barn, so if you have two animals give them two fodders. When there pregnant they still need fodder so don’t forget to feed mom!

Reproduction

To reproduce you need a male and female of each of that animal. To get them pregnant, go up to the female and ask if she wants to go outside answer no, then a second option will appear (if she’s an adult) asking if you want a baby. The next day the mother will be in the special stall. Depending on the animal, the baby will be born a certain amount of days later. Also, the baby will take a certain amount of days to reach adult hood. If a cow or horse is having a baby it’s usually really hard to predict what color the baby will be (for example the black cow can have a baby brown cow).

Daily Chores

Everyday there are a couple things you should do to your animals. No matter what the animal, you should at least talk to it; any other animal you should brush it and collect its produce (if it's a female). On nice days you should let it outside (be sure to bring it in before night fall) and be sure to feed it every day! After you do this every day your animals should start gaining hearts, the hearts represent the affection your animal has towards you. The more hearts the better the produce! So after a while your chicken has ten hearts it will turn golden! Now it will produce better eggs golden and they sell much higher.

Pets

Dogs, Cats, Bird and Pig

From the beginning, you have 8 pets available to you:

  • Tiny Dog - Protects animals.
  • Medium Dog - Protects animals.
  • Big Dog - Protects animals.
  • White Cat* - Pinkish cat that randomly finds summer seeds.
  • Black Cat* - Greyish cat that randomly finds spring seeds.
  • Spotted Cat* - Brownish cat that randomly finds fall seeds.
  • Bird - Randomly finds seeds.
  • Pig - Occasionally finds money.

Note: Darned cats run away! Early on in the game, the cat will run away/be taken, but it will come back the next day. To solve the disappearance, talk to people in the morning and sunrise.

Horses

Requirements

To purchase a horse you will need at least 6 patches of grass (3600g), once you have this, you can go to the farmers union and buy a horse for about 4000g. Horses don’t bring in any money, but you are able to enter your horse in the races. To do this, go to the farmers union, then you can enter your horse in a race.

Stages

There are two stages for the horse: foal, and horse. After you have asked the female if she would like a baby, after a couple days she’ll have given birth. After being born, the foal will take 25 days to reach adult.

To make the horse reproduce, you need a male and female at the adult stage. You ask the female if she wants to go outside, say no then an option will come up saying would you like to have a baby say yes.

After a while your horse will give birth and you will have a cute little foal on your farm. Horses come in three colors, a vanilla color, dark brown, and black with a golden mane. The vanilla colored horse will have its mane the same color as you bandana, so don’t be surprised if its baby blue! You can buy a saddle at Lucus’ shop for 1000g. Afterwards, you can ride your adult horse.

After you have entered your horse in the races, you are able to see the position of your horse by buying a book at Lucus’ shop after the 15th. There are two races: Derby race and the Filly race. Special races will occur on the fifteenth of spring (The Cherry Cup) and the fifteenth of fall (X race).

Livestock

Chickens

Requirements

To obtain a chicken, you usually need at least four patches of grass in the pasture. Once you have this and around 2400g, you can buy a chicken at the farmers' union for about 1000g. You can choose between a male (rooster) or female (hen) chicken, but unfortunately you are not able to name them. Female chickens, for obvious reasons, lay eggs.

To make mayonnaise you require a mayonnaise maker. After you've shipped enough eggs, you can purchase it from Lucus for about 30,000g. Mayonnaise has higher profit than eggs.

Stages

There are four primary stages for chickens: egg, chick, chicken and golden chicken. Once you put an egg in the incubator, it will take approximately 7 days to hatch, 14 days to reach adult, and then 10 hearts (plus the equivalent of another heart)- about another 8-10 days-to reach its golden stage. To make the chicken reproduce, you need male and female adults. Now you can place fertilized eggs in the incubator.

Produce

  • Egg 50G
  • Golden Egg 9000g
  • Mayonnaise 300G

Cows

Requirements

To have a cow you will need at least six patches of grass in the pasture. Once you have this and could afford it (about 3600g) you can buy a cow at the farmers union for about a 5000g. You can choose between a male or female cow fortunately you are able to name them! Always remember when you have purchased your animal to feed it the day you got it before you go to bed. Personally I would get the female cow first for obvious reasons, she produces milk. To make butter and cheese you will need to sell a lot of milk and then one day the cheese maker and butter maker will appear in Lucas’ shop. I can’t remember the price of the machine now but I think they were around the price of 30,000g.

Stages

There are three main stages for the cow, calf, young adult, chicken and adult cow. After you have asked the female if she would like a baby, after a couple days she’ll have given birth. After being born, the calf will take 14 days to reach young adult, then another 22 to reach adult hood. You can usually tell what stage the cow is by its size, small is calf, medium size is young adult and large is adult cow. To make the cow reproduce you need a male and female at the adult stage. You ask the female if she wants to go outside, say no then an option will come up saying would you like to have a baby say yes. You can really not tell what the color of the cow will be it’s usually random, there’s either brown or black. If you’re a girl you equip the milker then you milk the cow. On the other hand if you play as the boy, you have to talk to the girl and tell her to collect M-E-W or Anything. Small milk is produced if your cow has 0-3 hearts of affection, 4-7 it will produce Medium sized milk and 8-10 hearts will produce large milk. Having the butter and/or cheese making machine will be at your advantage because no matter what size of milk you put in the machine the cheese and/or butter will always be the same size. To use the butter or cheese machine make sure you don’t have the miracle gloves on and throw the milk in the machine by pressing the A button be sure you are close to the machine so you don’t throw away your milk!

Produces

  • S. Milk 150G
  • M. Milk 200G
  • L. Milk 250G
  • Cheese 300G
  • Butter 300G

Sheep

Requirements

To own a sheep, you will need at least six patches of grass in the pasture. Once you have this and 3600g, you can buy a baby lamb at the farmers union. You can choose between a male or female sheep and name them. Always remember when you have purchased your animal to feed it the day you got it before you go to bed. It really doesn’t matter if you buy a male or female because in this case they both produce wool. To get a yarn and sweater machine, you will need to ship about 100 pieces of wool. After you have done this, Lucas will have these items in stock for 30,000g.

Stages

There are two stages for the sheep, lamb, and sheep. After you have asked the female if she would like a baby, a couple days she’ll give birth. After being born, the lamb will take 22 days to reach adult.

To make the sheep reproduce, you need a male and female adult. You ask the female if she wants to go outside, say no then an option will come up saying would you like to have a baby, say yes.

If you’re a girl, you can equip the Clippers to shear the sheep. If you play as the boy, you have to talk to the girl and tell her to collect M-E-W or Anything. Wool is produced only at the adult stage. After about 7-8 days the wool will return and you can clip them once again.

The affection of your sheep will depend on the size of wool it will produce: 0-3 small, 4-7 medium and 8-10 it will produce large wool. Having the yarn and/or sweater machine will be at your advantage because no matter what size of wool you put in the machine the yarn and/or sweater will always be the same size. To use the yarn or sweater machine, (make sure you don’t have the miracle gloves on) throw the wool in the machine by pressing the A button. Please note that you can throw your wool away if you are not close enough!
